105651: Old North Galson, Lewis

The original township of North Galson was situated on land belonging to the North Galson Tack, which prior to 1814 had been a joint-tenancy farm rather than a tack with subtenants. On this website it is referred to as Old North Galson to distinguish it from the current settlement of North Galson.

The old township was crofted early in the 19th century, but was cleared in 1863 along with the short-lived adjoining settlement of New Galson. The land was then added to Galson Farm. Only in 1924, when the farm was split up, did North Galson again become a crofting community.
