118177: Giant MacAskill Cairn, Sheabie

The cairn was unveiled on 23rd July 1992, a memorial to Giant MacAskill, Aonghas Mòr, who was born at this site in 1825. At one time Angus was recognised as the strongest man in the world. Donald MacKillop of Berneray Historical Society played a leading role in obtaining contributions from many people with links to the island. Norris MacWhirter of the Guinness Book of Records unveiled the cairn, which stands 7 feet 9 inches tall.
