108768: Inchaffray Abbey, Perthshire

Inchaffray Abbey was situated about 6 miles east of Crieff. An Augustinian abbey, it was founded in 1200. Its abbot during the early 14th century, Maurice, was an early supporter of and chaplain to King Robert the Bruce. In 1317, three years after the Battle of Bannockburn, Robert granted the church of Killin and the Chapel of Strathfillan to Inchaffray Abbey. A similar grant, of Teampall na Trianaid in North Uist, was made by another of Robert’s supporters, Christina MacRuairi.

Today little of the building remains.
