76046: Drowning in Bays Loch, 2nd March 1929

Three men, Angus MacLean, John MacLean and Seonaidh Iain MacLean were tragically drowned off the island of Berneray on 2nd March 1929. The following extract is from The Scotsman dated 4th March 1929:

Harris Tragedy – Three Men Drowned – Small Boat Overturns

It is not definitely known what caused the accident, as the weather conditions were fairly favourable at the time, but it is surmised that the men were changing places while the boat was being rowed, and that the boat suddenly gave a lurch to one side, the men being thrown into the water.
