14172: Spanish Civil War (1936-1939)

The Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) was a military nationalist insurrection originating in Morocco, headed by General Francisco Franco, which spread rapidly all over the country. After a number of bloody battles between the incumbent Republic and the right-wing Nacionales in which fortunes changed from one side to the other, Franco finally prevailed and made a victorious entry into Madrid on 28 March 1939.

The struggle roused many volunteers around the world to join the International Brigades in support of the Reblican side; some also joined Franco. Britain remained officially neutral.
