117497: Meeting at Cladh Maolrithe

A meeting was held at Cladh Maolrithe at the suggestion of Donald MacLeod, the old Trojan,  sometime in the mid 18th century. Following many disputes between the tenants of Sand and Borve over rights to seaweed in the Sound of Harris, and being aware that tenants of Kyles Berneray allowed him to use their horses to gather his peats, he suggested that Borve tenants be more generous. An agreement was reached at Cladh Maolrithe that tenants of Sand would pay 25 merks to subtenants of Borve for the right to seaware from Grianam and nearby skerries.
