8731: 16 Uigen

This croft was let in 1850 at a rental of 5.10/- to Donald Smith, A’Fidhlear, whose home in the 1841 census was at Kneep (probably at Creagan na Traghad). In 1851 census, Donald Smith and family are living at Uigen next door to Norman Macdonald, who had croft No 5 Kneep. Donald Smith died at Uigen in the 1850’s and his widow and family had moved back to Kneep by 1861. His widow was allocated croft No 9 Kneep.

No 16 then passed to Donald Maclennan, son of Kenneth Maclennan, 1 Kneep and he, in turn, moved back to 1 Kneep.

Norman Macdonald, whose home was at Uigen from 1841 onwards but who had 5 Kneep, then became tenant of No 16 and was succeeded by his son, Donald.
