76901: Nissen Cottage, Ferry

This house was built for Catherine Dix (Kate) in about 1962, becoming her main residence. It was later the home of her daughter Millicent. Kate’s daughter-in-law recalled:

The Nissen was popularly known as Taigh Wally. Kate was dubbed ‘Wally the walrus’ because of her swimming ability and [her son] Archie had a ceramic nameplate especially made which had pride of place by the front door.

Only the gable ends of the house now remain.

It is referred to as ‘house no 73’ in the croft history of the area.
