74037: ‘House 6’ Baile
This was the home of one of Berneray’s bards, Malcolm MacAskill. He moved here with his young family in about 1870, earning a living as a merchant and fisherman, later becoming registrar for the island.
Some time after 1911, widower Angus MacLean moved here with his two daughters, Kate and Rachel. Angus was a fisherman and drowned with two other men in 1929. The house passed to Rachel, who later moved to Glasgow with her husband Malcolm.
The house is now in ruins.
