29281: Gamekeepers House, Valamus

James Laidlaw is recorded as having lived here as well as James Munro, son of John Munro who was the Head Gamekeeper on the Lewis Estate. James worked at the Lews Castle Home Shootings and also at Hamnavay in Uig before moving to Valamus. After he left Pairc in around 1889 he moved to the Reay Forest in Sutherland where he was appointed under-stalker. He later became head keeper and the Factor to the owner, the second Duke of Westminster.

Robert Dempster came to Valamus in 1911. He served in the Lovat Scouts during the First World War and returned to Lewis in 1919. He moved to the Isle of Rhum in 1927 but returned to Lewis in 1929 and lived in the Gamekeepers House, Kenmore.
