16021: 6 Laxay

The first tenant of 6 Laxay was Colin Mackenzie (1780-1845) who had been evicted along with ten other crofters from their holdings at Aline and Pairc in 1828.

The next tenant was Norman Morrison (1817-1879) who came to Laxay from Uig, via Dalmore. In the late 1860s, Norman lost the tenancy of the croft and became a cottar on his brother’s croft at 4 Laxay.

Angus Mackenzie (1860-1943) from 22 Tolsta Chaolais resided with his family at 6 Laxay. After Angus died, the croft was divided between his sons Duncan, 6b Laxay and Ian M, 6a Laxay. The croft remained divided until 1968 when both crofts went to Alexander Mackenzie, husband of Angus’s sister Christina Ann.
