12030: 8 Balallan

Roderick Macleod from Balallan was the tenant of this croft until he moved to 39 Balallan in the 1850s.

The next tenant was Donald Macdonald who had lived in Orinsay. His son Kenneth tenanted the croft until they moved to Lemreway after its re-settlement.

Donald Mackinnon, 6 Crossbost was the new tenant and when he died in 1906, he left the croft to his son Donald (1885-1922). He renounced the croft in favour of his mother Mary Ann. She sold the croft to Roderick Macdonald, 12 Balallan in 1908 and moved to Stornoway with her daughter Mary.
