112352: Ruisgarry Manse, Berneray

The Manse at Ruisgarry, together with the neighbouring Established Church, was one of 32 designed and built by Thomas Telford, the famous Scottish engineer. Built in 1829, its first residents were Reverend John Bethune and his family.

Details of the building after Reverend Bethune’s death in 1851 are to be found in the record for the croft assigned to the Manse about that time, known as 6a Ruisgarry (The Glebe).
