Buth Iain Dhomhnaill was very popular as the Macivers also ran the Post Office and had the only telephone in the village at that time.

Iain Dhomhnaill’s house and shop were in the middle of the village, at 13b. There was no proper road to it so Iain and Mairi his sister, had to carry all the goods on their backs up from the garage on the main road at 13a Laxay. Iain and Mairi eventually moved to 29 Laxay where they were able to reverse their van right up to the door of the roadside shop.
