73095: Post Office, Kershader

The mails for Habost, Kershader, Garyvard and Caversta were originally sorted at the Laxay office and ferried across Loch Erisort for local distribution. Donald Mackay, 11 Kershader and his brother Finlay, were responsible for the early deliveries which came over twice a week. In 1927 a sub-Post Office was opened by Samuel Macinnes, 1 Kershader. His daughter Mary succeeded him. Later, the Post Office moved to 5 Kershader where it was run at different times by Donald John Macleod and his brother Calum Iain and latterly their nephew, Iain Duncan.

In 1989, Marilyn Macdonald, 7 Kershader was appointed sub-postmistress.
