109665: Barra Airport

Barra’s airport, with three runways for different wind directions, is famously located at the cockle beach Tràigh Mhòr, which provides suitable hard ground for planes to land, depending on tides. The airfield was licensed by the Air Ministry on 7th August 1936, with single flights from Barra to Glasgow costing £4 at that time.

Barra Airport is now operated by Highland and Islands Airport Ltd. More information can be found on their website.
