60335: HMAS Sydney

This Leander Class Light Cruiser was built by Swan Hunter & Wigham Richardson, Wallsend on Tyne in 1934 for the Royal Navy as HMS Phaeton. She was purchased by the Australian Government, renames HMAS Sydney and served in the Second World War.

On November 19, 1941 HMAS Sydney engaged the disguised German raider HSK Kormoran off Western Australia and both ships were sunk with the loss of all 645 of the crew of HMAS Sydney.
