52351: SS Oronsay

SS Oronsay was built by John Brown and Company, in Clydebank, for the Orient Navigation Steam Company in 1924. She travelled the London to Australia route and was requisitioned for the Second World War.

On October 9, 1942, SS Oronsay was sailing unescorted in the Atlantic Ocean heading for Cape Town when she was torpedoed off Liberia.  All but six of the crew were rescued after twelve days.
