48895: SS/HMS Orama
Launched for the Orient Line on 25th June 1911, SS ‘Orama’ was built by John Brown & Co., Clydebank. She made her maiden voyage on 10th November 1911 from London to Brisbane, via Suez, and remained on this service until 1914 when she was commissioned into the Royal Navy as an Armed Merchant Cruiser. She took part in the Battle of Coronel, off the Falkland Islands in 1914.
On 19th November 1917 she was torpedoed and sunk while escorting a convoy south of Ireland, 217 miles off the Isles of Scilly
