120827: SS Somme (143394)

The SS Somme was a Cargo Steam Ship laid down as HMS War Toucan for the Ministry of War Transport. She was built by Short Brothers, Pallion, Sunderland in 1919 and completed as SS Somme for the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company, London.

On February 18, 1942, south east of the Cable Islands, the SS Somme was torpedoed and sunk with the loss of all hands.
