72951: John MacLeod

John MacLeod, born in 1861, was the son of Donald MacLeod and Catherine MacKillop, cottars on 1/2 Ruisgarry (Sandhill). John married Marion MacAskill in 1889, with whom he was to have ten children. Initially a cottar, he became a fisherman and later a crofter. John and Marion lived on the croft at Sandhill until about 1900, when they moved to her father’s croft at 10 Ruisgarry (Gunhill), which was later passed to John.

Following John’s death in 1942, 10 Ruisgarry was passed to his daughter Marion Ann.
